Nook (2007)

(scroll sideways)

The City of Sydney in 2030 will be an active and sustainable cultural and design center. Increased population, economic growth, and general city activity will result in a greater
need for quality public space for locals and tourists. These spaces should be enriching, allow for rest, recreation, and an outlet to get away from the bustle of city life.

This object was conceived as a lighting/gallery/information space to be embedded along the walls of pedestrian laneways. The unit can be rotated by passers-by depending
on which side they want facing the laneway. One side opens up to house a small 2D or 3D artwork and the other side contains a light enclosed behind a patterened surface.
The pattern on each nook will be derived from sources around each of the villages of the City of Sydney. Anodized aluminum, scale 1:2. Actual size 940 x 500mm.
