Cacao Pod
(2006) Object
Gold and clear anodized aluminium, brass tube
Asked to develop a container to hold 'a handful of sweetness', the object has a shallow main compartment plus a bumpy tray to hold cocoa powder or small pieces of chocolate. It was based on the Aztec Emperor Montezuma's golden vessel from which he famously consumed a cacao drink. The object reflects the plant itself with the bumps on the tray mimicking the arrangement of seeds inside the pod. It is small enough to be held in the palm of one hand.
