Mindmap
(2007) 1 object, 8 graphic screens
Red anodized aluminium, slip cast porcelain
Developed in conjunction with Sustainable Sydney 2030, 'mindmap' is a prototype for a wayfinding and informative device that assists both tourists and locals in navigating the city of Sydney. Using advanced biometric technology, the device can detect brainwaves from anyone who steps within its sensor radius and can discern any questions regarding that particular site or any aspect of the city. In response, the device projects a screen filled with information, images and maps that are relevant to the individual's query.
The object itself is quite small and brightly coloured to attract attention yet is unobtrusive to pedestrian traffic and anyone who doesn’t want to have their mind read. Situated in major city locations and landmarks, the 'mindmap' devices are primarily intended for tourists by showing them directions, locational information and small pieces of local knowledge in order to make their Sydney experience more enjoyable. It seeks to instill an air of helpfulness, connecting with individuals and creating city character.
